Assam Arogya Nidhi: Financial Assistance for Medical Treatment
The Government of Assam has established the Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) scheme to provide financial assistance to residents facing significant medical expenses due to serious health conditions or accidents. This initiative aims to support individuals and families who may struggle to afford necessary treatments.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Residency: Applicants must be permanent residents of Assam.
- Income Limit: Families with an annual income up to ₹5 lakh are eligible.
- Exclusions: Government employees, government pensioners, and their family members are not eligible for this scheme.
Diseases and Conditions Covered:
The AAN scheme offers assistance for the treatment of various serious diseases and conditions, including but not limited to:
- Heart diseases and surgeries
- Cancer
- Kidney and urinary diseases
- Orthopedic conditions
- Thalassemia
- Bone marrow transplant
- AIDS
- Chronic mental illnesses requiring surgical treatment
Additionally, certain diagnostic procedures and essential drugs are covered under the scheme.
Financial Assistance Details:
- Eligible beneficiaries can receive financial assistance up to a maximum of ₹3 lakh.
- This support can be utilized for treatments in:
- All government hospitals, including medical colleges and tertiary healthcare facilities
- Private hospitals registered under the Clinical Establishment Act
- Empaneled hospitals under the Assam Medical Attendance Rules, as well as those recognized under the PMJAY and MMJAY schemes
Application Process:
- Obtain the Application Form: Download the application form from the National Health Mission, Assam website.
- Complete the Form: Fill in the required details accurately.
- Attach Necessary Documents: Include the following documents with your application:
- Attested photograph of the patient
- Attested copy of income certificate issued by the Revenue Circle Officer
- Attested copy of identity and address proof (e.g., Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, Driving License)
- Original medical bills, vouchers, and receipts
- Attested copies of medical prescriptions and discharge summaries
- Attested copy of the first page of the bank passbook
- Attested copy of PMJAY/Atal Amrit Abhiyan card, if available
- Submit the Application: Submit the completed application along with the necessary documents to the Office of the Mission Director, National Health Mission, Saikia Commercial Complex, Christian Basti, Guwahati-781005.
An expert committee comprising specialist doctors from Gauhati Medical College will review the applications and recommend eligible cases for financial assistance. Approved funds are disbursed preferably through direct bank transfer.
