Pioneering Pedicle Screw Fixation in Pott’s Spine at Dhubri Medical College

In a landmark achievement for medical care in lower Assam, Dr. Dhruba Narayan Borah (HOD) and Dr. Bikash Agarwal, along with their dedicated orthopaedic team, successfully performed Pedicle Screw Fixation in Pott’s Spine, a complex spinal surgery requiring precision and expertise.

This procedure, rarely performed in peripheral medical colleges, was conducted to stabilize the spine in a patient suffering from tuberculous spondylitis (Pott’s disease)—a severe condition that can lead to spinal deformity and paralysis if left untreated. The surgery not only relieved the patient from excruciating pain but also restored mobility, ensuring a significantly improved quality of life.

The remarkable success of this surgery drew widespread appreciation, including a special mention from Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Honourable Chief Minister of Assam, who acknowledged this milestone on Twitter, recognizing the growing medical excellence at Dhubri Medical College.

Transforming Lives Through Total Knee Arthroplasty

Dhubri Medical College has achieved another medical milestone with the successful completion of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) by the Department of Orthopaedics, led by Dr. Bikash Agarwal and Dr. Dhruba Narayan Borah (HOD).

This surgery was performed on a patient suffering from severe osteoarthritis, a condition that had drastically limited their mobility and caused chronic pain. Through expert surgical intervention, the damaged knee joint was replaced with a prosthetic implant, enabling the patient to regain pain-free movement.

TKA is a highly specialized procedure generally performed in tertiary care centers. However, the expertise and dedication of the orthopaedic team at Dhubri Medical College ensured that such advanced surgical care was made accessible locally, reducing the need for patients to travel to metropolitan hospitals for treatment.

Restoring Mobility with Total Hip Replacement at Dhubri Medical College

Adding another feather to its cap, the Department of Orthopaedics at Dhubri Medical College successfully conducted Total Hip Replacement (THR) under the skilled hands of Dr. Dhruba Narayan Borah (HOD) and Dr. Bikash Agarwal.

The surgery was performed on a patient suffering from avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip, a painful condition that severely limits movement and deteriorates the quality of life. Through this advanced procedure, the damaged hip joint was replaced with a prosthetic implant, restoring full mobility and eliminating pain.

Total Hip Replacement is a rare procedure in medical colleges located in non-metro regions, making this achievement a significant milestone in the advancement of orthopaedic care at Dhubri Medical College. With this success, the institution continues to establish itself as a center of excellence, offering cutting-edge orthopaedic procedures to the people of lower Assam.
